"Avramoglou" Greek mountain tea 40g

The Mountain Tea, the most popular Greek herb, Hippocrates recommended it as a tonic because of its high content of iron and Dioscorides considered powerful shield against the cold. Derived from the plant Siderites spp and got its name from the Greek word "iron" thanks to healing action of plant against wounds caused by iron weapons. Crete is known as "malotira 'name comes from the Italian words« male » (illness) and« tirare » (drag), because in Venetian Crete was considered a panacea for colds and respiratory diseases.

Also known as Shepherds Tea and Ironwort in English, almost every Greek region that grows this tea has its own name for it. Used for thousands of years for its delicious taste and health benefits “malotira” in Crete or “Olympos” or “Parnassos” are grouped together and known across Greece as Sideritis. It grows wild at elevations around 1000m and are cultivated in various mountainous regions of Greece where the herb comes into contact with greater humidity.

“Sideritis” can literally be translated as “he who is made of iron” and is typically made from wild handpicked dried flowers, leaves and stems of Sideritis genus plants.

Properties-Uses:

It has anti-hypertensive, antioxidant, antipyretic, antithrombotic activity, while the rich content of flavonoids shields the circulatory and cardiovascular systems. Current investigations in fact confirm the antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, analgesic and anxiolytic activity. Contributes to the prevention of osteoporosis, fights indigestion and gastrointestinal disorders, rejuvenates brain cells by acting proactively against the disease.

Preparation:

Pour boiling water in a spoon siderite and leave 5 minutes to release the aromas. You can drink it cold with honey and lemon.
