“Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds that you plant.” In relation to this lovely metaphor, we would add that some people who are, let’s say, more into philosophy think of seeds as a source of life. On the other hand, there are also ones who think of them only as food and nothing else.
No matter what they really are, seeds are something we should be thankful for. That’s why today we’re going to talk about 4 of the healthiest seeds on the planet. Keep reading!
- Chia seeds
These tiny little colorful (well, kind of!) seeds are known as one of the best types of food. In fact, today nutritionists list them among the so-called ‘super foods’. That’s because they might fill your body with minerals, vitamins, fibers, antioxidants and even proteins. Yes, they can also be a great food supplement for all of you, fitness lovers! What’s more, just like fish, chia seeds are said to contain omega-3 fatty acids. Plus, they have zero gluten and might improve brain functioning.
2. Flax seed
Another one we should appreciate today! Most food specialists claim that the red-brownish seeds are quite rich in proteins and soluble fibers that can lower cholesterol levels and improve digestion. In fact, that’s how they might help you soothe any stomachache or other digestive system issues. Of course, they are also popular as ‘antioxidant bombs’, which makes them the perfect addition to your meal.
3. Sesame seeds
Did you know that people used to season their dishes with the light-colored seeds long ago? Although they also go into the modern ‘super food’ list, sesame seeds were popular even in historical times. Lab results show that this food can give you enough iron, magnesium, potassium, copper, vitamin B, zinc, phosphorus and dietary fibers. Look how much stuff in just a bunch of small seeds!
4. Sunflower seeds
Even if they seem simple to you, that’s not exactly the case! Just think of it: “Sunflowers end up facing the sun, but they go through a lot of dirt to find their way there.” So, the fact that they are super common and people use them all the time doesn’t mean they are not special. Actually, we often forget about how important they are just because we tend to take them for granted. However, sunflower seeds are said to be rich in folic acid as well as vitamins B and E. There’s information that the latter may neutralize free radicals and protect our cells from going in the wrong direction. So, let’s respect these little ones!
