“It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…” But before the day comes, we should take our time to cleanse the body and the soul. It’s Nativity fast!
Today we are outlining 4 questions and their logical answers about the fasting period!
- Why should we fast before the Nativity?
To look at things from the philosophical side, the Nativity fast is a period when we all have the chance to focus on the spiritual life. This is the time when we can be more humble, mindful and “clean”. That’s probably because abstaining from food does not only detoxify the body, but also the mind and soul.
2. How long does it last?
Each year the Nativity fast starts on November, 15th and ends up on Christmas – December, 25th. During these days there are periods of strict fast as well as periods when seafood and wine are allowed. In case you want to learn more details, read this blog post. So, if you strictly follow the Nativity fast, this will most likely result in better health, self-confidence and well-being.
3. What should we eat during the Nativity fast?
In case you checked the article we mentioned above, you already know a lot about the food before Christmas. As a whole, the Nativity fast requires temporary exclusion of all kinds of animal products from the menu. The nutrition mostly consists of fruits, vegetables, legumes, grains, nuts and seeds. Many people think such foods won’t give enough to the body. However, it’s a fact that the right amounts and the precise choice of products can compensate the lack of meat and animal food.
4. How to prepare for it?
Nowadays people eat lots of junk food and that’s why it’s quite difficult to make such a big change as Nativity fast is. To avoid dizziness, low self-esteem, bad mood, digestion issues and others, you can try the following:
- Gradually reduce all kinds of nicotine, caffeine and alcohol products;
- Start to eat less semi-manufactured foods as well as sweets;
- Try to reduce the meat consumption so that when Nativity fast comes, you don’t feel the lack drastically;
- Eat more fruits at lunch;
- Drink more water;
