As it’s this time of the year when oranges are all over the place, it would be a shame not to cook something fabulous with them! Who says orange juice
is only for drinking? Our suggestion for today is for you to grab your positive energy
and make a tasty cake for the whole family.
Maybe you already have a bunch of cake recipes in your mind, but does any of them include fruit juice? The idea of cooking a dessert that would give out wonderful fruity smells
all around your home is pretty tempting, huh!?
First of all, let’s point out some of the most important things
before you get this started!
- If you’re not a great fan of orange juice, you can use any other kind of juice. Of course, this would change the flavors and the taste, but it’s all up to you.
- The most important thing for a ‘happy ending’ is to whip the sugar and the eggs to perfection! Remember: both products should not just double up their size; it should become at least 4 times bigger! To achieve this result, beat at high speed for long enough (around 10 minutes).
So, here’s the recipe for our fluffy, flavorful Orange juice cake
200ml vegetable oil
200ml orange juice (or other)
360g self-rising flour
½ tsp baking powder
2 tbsp cocoa powder
Preheat the oven at 175°C. Put some oil over your baking dish (which should be with a hole in the middle) and then sprinkle some flour.
Mix the self-rising flour with the baking powder.
In another bowl beat up the eggs and the sugar at high speed until the mixture goes up to the edge. Then gradually add the vegetable oil and the juice. When you do this, we would suggest that you don’t stop whipping. In the end put the orange zest and the mixture of flour and baking powder to the other ingredients.
Stir until you create a homogenous blend
. After that take 1/3rd
of this mixture and combine it with the cocoa powder. Pour the second part at the bottom of your large baking dish. Then in the middle you should pour the cocoa blend that you’ve just prepared. Finally, on top place the last part of the mixture.
Bake for about 40 minutes
, but don’t forget to check it from time to time as each oven is different. After the cake cools down a bit, sprinkle powdered sugar on top and you’re ready to surprise everyone!
serve the cake with a glass of orange juice (or other, if you’ve chosen another kind of fruit juice). This way you will drop a hint at what’s inside the cake.
