Homemade Bread: 2 Simple Recipes you Can Try Today

A famous author once wrote that “True love is like bread. It needs the right ingredients, a little head and some magic to rise.” Well, we would add that just like love, bread needs a lot of passion in order to become real. Many of you can probably still remember the smell of freshly baked bread from the childhood, right? To be honest, there’s nothing tastier than a hot homemade bread coming out of the stove. Today you can find this product all along the supermarket shelves, but would it be the same if you do with your own hands? Let’s try and compare!
  1. Standard bread
Products: 500g all-purpose flour 20g yeast 200ml water (warm) 3tbsp olive oil 2tsp sugar A pinch of salt classic homemade bread
  • Take a bowl and mix the sugar and yeast until creamy. Then add the water and let it stay at room temperature for about 10 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, combine flour with salt and sift in a big bowl
  • Now make ‘a well’ for the wet ingredients. Pour the dissolved yeast as well as the olive oil and knead until homogenous. You’ll know it’s OK when the dough doesn’t stick to the hands and bowl.
  • Turn onto a floured surface and knead again to achieve elasticity.
  • Grease another bowl and transfer there. Cover and set aside to rise (at least double).
  • Take a loaf pan where you’ll bake the bread and grease it well.
  • When the dough is well-risen, shape it into a loaf and place it in the pan. Leave for 20-30 min to rest.
  • In the meantime, preheat the oven to 230C°.
  • After half an hour, bake for 30 minutes until golden-brown.
  1. Classic sandwich bread
Products: 400g white flour 5g dry yeast 250ml cream 35% fat 1x egg 5g sugar 6g salt 30g butter, melted Seeds (optional) homemade sandwich bread
  • Sift the flour, add the yeast, salt, sugar and mix well.
  • Then add the cream and the egg and knead a dough.
  • Start gradually adding the butter while kneading. Do this until the dough absorbs all the butter. When you’re ready, place the dough into a greased bowl and cover with foil. Let it rise at room temperature.
  • After some time, transfer the well-risen dough onto a floured surface and knead again. Cover with a towel and let it stay for 20-30 minutes.
  • Take a rectangular cake form and grease it with oil or cover with baking paper.
  • Shape a loaf by making the same form as the one you’ll be baking in. Then put the bread inside the baking form, cover with foil and let it rise again.
  • Preheat the oven to 200C°.
  • Sprinkle some seeds on top of the loaf (if you wish) and bake for 35-40 min.
