What do all
Greek “pitas” have in common? The answer is simple. They are
super tasty! No matter if it’s
Kreatopita, Spanakopita, Portokalopita, Tiropita or whatever they are all part of the traditional menu and are definitely
must-try recipes.
Alevropita /
αλευροπιτα/ is another type of
‘pita’ thing that’s easy to cook and much easier to eat. Basically, it’s made of something like a pancake mixture and in the end it tastes very much like a
cheese pastry. We’re talking about no phyllo pastry, no kneading and no worries here! It’s all fast and easy.
Before we reveal the secret, let’s talk about some history, OK? Well,
alevropita is popular mainly in Northern Greece and there are a lot of variations for the recipe. However, it’s all about the same products but it’s just made in different ways.
So, here comes
the cooking part:
Products:
150g flour
250ml milk
1 egg
150g feta cheese
30g butter
Salt, dried oregano
3tbsp olive oil
Preheat the oven to 200C°. It’s very important for you to grease the baking tin with enough olive oil. This way you’ll have a crispy pie and it won’t stick to the bottom.
Meanwhile take a bowl and mix the flour, salt, milk and the egg. Whisk
energetically until you get a mixture that’s a little bit thicker than the one for pancakes.
Put the empty baking dish inside the oven for 3-4 minutes. The olive oil must start fuming. After that take it out of the oven and pour the mixture evenly.
Crumble the feta over the whole thing and place some slices of butter on top. Bake for around
45 min until it becomes golden-brown.
Once the meal is baked, wait for 5 minutes before you cut it into pieces. Don’t forget to sprinkle some oregano, by the way!
